As I mentioned earlier, the story of To Leslie is set in Texas. You’d be surprised to know that the majority of the outdoor scenes of this movie were filmed in a completely different location. Michael Morris was planning to shoot the entire movie in Texas during the starting stages of production.
However, after the production members scouted the filming locations in Texas, the director wasn’t satisfied with the overall look of the backdrop. So, after checking the location in person, the director asked the production to look for other shooting locations in America.
Within a couple of weeks, the filming crew scouted potential shooting locations in California and then waited for further instructions from the director. Michael and a couple of other creative heads checked the shooting locations for the second time and then made the final decision.
The principal photography of To Leslie began in the second week of October 2021 and continued till the first month of December. Even though the production members only had to capture the outdoor scenes in and around California, the shooting schedule got extended.
The majority of the outdoor shots of this movie were filmed in Los Angeles County, California. While the remaining scenes were captured in Rosamund. The first phase of shooting went on smoothly. However, during the second phase of shooting, the production members faced some major challenges.
When the production members were filming the outdoor scenes in Rosamond, the entire shooting process stopped due to a major incident. The director later changed the filming location and then continued the shooting process.
But, due to this unfortunate incident, the shooting schedule was delayed, and the production members couldn’t stay on top of filming dates.
Los Angeles, California
The opening sequence of the movie was filmed in Los Angeles County. The production members used a medium-sized house located on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The sequences depicting the female lead’s home before she won the lottery were filmed in this location.
However, the sequences from the second quarter of the film were shot in a different location. In order to depict Leslie’s apartment after she won the lottery were captured inside a luxurious apartment. The production members used a medium-sized apartment located in one of the most posh neighborhoods in Los Angeles to capture these sequences.
Rosamond, California
The second phase of shooting commenced in the city of Rosamond. The sequences from the final quarter of the movie were filmed in and around this city. The production members used a vacant shop and turned it around to look like a rehab center.
