Where Was The Invitation Filmed? Let’s Know This Horror Drama Film Closely!
Even though Karyn Kasuma directed this horror thriller film, she didn’t write the screenplay. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the screenplay for this project after doing research about various murder cases and a number of horrific topics.
The story of this film is completely fictional and does not hold any resemblance to any real-life characters or incidents. Yet, the screenplay writers were skilled enough to make the story more interesting.
Kasuma was mainly involved in selecting the filming locations and supervising the auditioning process. Logan Marshall-Green and Emayatzy Corinealdi were selected as the main characters, while Michiel Huisman was selected to play the supporting role.
The casting directors selected the other actors for their respective roles, and later Kasuma started looking for ideal filming locations with other production members. Soon, a select group of people joined the director and started scouting filming locations in and around California.
The director reviewed the shooting budget and thought it would be best to shoot the outdoor scenes of the film in California. A couple of weeks later, the main filming locations were selected. The principal photography began in the first week of June 2014 and continued for two months straight.
While the production members were filming the outdoor scenes in Los Angeles County, they ran into a major problem. There was a huge confusion with regard to the filming permission acquired by the production members.
The director and other creative heads later sorted out the issue after requesting for the shooting permit for the second time. Almost one and a half weeks’ time was wasted due to this incident, which eventually delayed the entire shooting schedule.
After all the outdoor scenes were shot, the production members also filmed the interior scenes of The Invitation inside a famous studio in Los Angeles. So let us now go ahead and take a closer look at where was The Invitation filmed.
California | USA
The opening scene of the film, where we see the lead character partying with his friends, was filmed in the downtown area of Los Angeles. The production members selected a luxurious apartment to capture the sequences of Will’s home.
The overall look of the house was so perfect that the director didn’t even ask to make any major changes. Only special lighting equipment was mounted on the wall to capture the interior scenes of the apartment during the night.
A couple of other scenes were filmed in and around the downtown area. The production members used a vacant shop to capture the sequence of the eatery. The majority of the time was spent in turning around this shop to make it look like a restaurant.
Finally, during the second phase of shooting, the sequences from the final quarter of the movie were captured near Beverly Hills. The production members selected a big mansion located in this posh location to capture the outdoor shots of Will’s previous wife’s home.
By the first week of August 2014, the production members filmed all the scenes of The Invitation. A couple of weeks later, the crew started working on the promotion of this horror film.
