Where Was Superbad Filmed? A Jovial Teen Comedy Flick From Late 2000s!

The American bonafide badass comedy flick, Superbad, came to the theaters in 2007. Seth Rogen apart from making a star appearance, also wrote the screenplay of the film. The central story of the film is showcased around the characters of Seth and Evan, two teenage boys, who are on a mission to lose their virginity, before finishing high-school.

Superbad, was a box office hit! The film went on to gross over $170 million in worldwide collections, which was 10X of the actual budget of the film. Furthermore, this comedy flick also won a number of awards such as, 20th Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, Canadian Comedy Awards and Young Hollywood Awards in 2008

At the very beginning of the film, we are acquainted with the characters of Seth (played by Jonah Hill) and Evan (played by Michael Cera) arguing over which college they should choose in order to complete their higher education. The teenagers soon deviate from the topic, as the hot neighbour Jules asks them to join at her party later in the evening. 

Over excitedly Seth accepts the invitation and promises to bring booze! Later realising the arrangement for alcohol could not be made by him alone, Seth forces his friend Fogel to counterfeit an ID. Fogel then reaches to the liquor store, with a fake ID, that declares him as a 25 year old man from Hawaii, named McLovin, and gets caught! 

The police officers (Seth Rogen and Bill Hader) are shown to arrive at the scene, and apprehend Fogel. Seth and Evan eventually get in touch with their friend and convince police officers to release him.

Finally, the teenagers arrive at Jules’ party. And Seth meets with his hot neighbour and tries to kiss her. Jules immediately stops him, and asks him to leave. 

Later Seth and Evans realise their mistake and make heartfelt apologies to Jules and Becca at the mall. The credits roll as the teenage girls quickly forget about the squabble and agree to be friends again.

Where Was Superbad Filmed? Let’s Know This Comedy Movie Closely!!

The 2007 teenage comedy flick, Superbad was filmed entirely in California. Even though most of the events that transpired in Seth Rogen’s life, which the film is based on, took place in Canada. Director Gregg Mottola and cinematographer Russ Alsobrook, decided to shoot in a number of places in California to recreate the events of Seth’s life on screen.

The principal photography began in September 2006 and was completed within 2 months. There were no major hurdles reported by the production unit during the filming sessions. Although managing the crowd while shooting at the public places looked hard at first. But was later sorted by the filming crew. The costumes and logistics required for the shoot were booked in advance and were pre delivered, which helped the production unit immensely.

California, USA

Director Gregg Mottola along with his filming crew arrived at Northridge, California to shoot the outdoor sequence of Evan’s home. Located at 17200 Rayen St in the San Fernando Valley region, this place was perfect to portray a white American neighbourhood. The production team also filmed the party scene at this same location, which is shown at a later part of the film. The parking lot scene where Fogel is shown to go berserk, was filmed in California State University Northridge at 18111 Nordhoff Street.

Here is a list of films and shows such as American Horror Story, Amsterdam, Reboot, Nope, The Patient, The Old Man, and Babylon (I) which were also filmed in California.

Los Angeles is no stranger to Hollywood. Most of the shooting of American films and shows take place at this location. Director Mottola along with his production unit arrived at downtown L.A. to film the sequence which featured Bailey’s Bar and Grill in the movie. Other outdoor scenes in California were filmed in El Segundo High School located at 640 Main St which portrayed Seth and Evan’s High school in the film.

You can check out these places in L.A. such as Disneyland Park, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Getty, Santa Monica Pier, Griffith Observatory and the infamous Universal Studios Hollywood even though these places were not used for filming Superbad.

Finally the crew reached Culver City to film the mall scene at Fox Hills Mall. The rest of the indoor sequences of Superbad were shot in Sony Pictures Studios which is located at 10202 W. Washington Blvd, Culver City. The crew made a set inside the studio and later took it down, after the filming was completed.
