Where Was Split Filmed? Let’s Know This Psycho Thriller Flick Closely!!
Director M. Night Shyamalan, along with the production unit, decided to shoot on location owing to the filming budget. Philadelphia, the largest city in the state of Pennsylvania, is where the majority of the filming for Split, took place. While some interior sequences also featured the neighboring cities of Philly.
After scouting the perfect filming spots, the unit started working on the principal photography! Which even though, began in November 2015, almost took 7 months to complete. The filming dates, which was originally scheduled for 4 months, got stretched because of reported mismanagement by the unit.
Nonetheless, let us discuss where was Split filmed, in depth. And find out what all transpired during the filming process!
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The sequence that featured the lair of Kevin in the film, was the famous zoo in the city of Philadelphia. Located at 3400 W. Girard Avenue, this location was deemed perfect by director Shayamalan, to bring out the animal nature of the antagonist.
Special permission had to be taken from the authorities of the zoo, for filming which was acquired easily. The outdoor sequences were shot here during the day. Which made managing the crowd a tedious task for the filming crew to say the least.
After filming the exterior sequence of the zoo, director Shyamalan decided to shoot the final sequence of the film in the same city. Thus the ending sequence which showcased the Silk City Diner and Bar Lounge, was also filmed in Philadelphia.
Located at 435 Spring Garden St, this place was ideal for filming as the surrounding areas were not crowded at all. The production filmed the interior as well as the exterior shots of the Diner.
Here’s a list of films and shows that you can watch, such as Mare of Easttown, Abbott Elementary, Cold Case, The Sixth Sense, Hustle, American Crime Story, The Visit, Silver Linings Playbook, Servant, Warrior, World War Z and Shazam which interestingly enough were also filmed here!
Aston, Pennsylvania
Upon completion of the majority of the filming in Philly, the production unit arrived at Delaware County. The Sun Center Studio located in the city of Aston was selected as the final place for recreating the interior shots. Initially the crew constructed a set in the backlot of the studio and started shooting there.
But the filming came to a halt due to the disagreement between the studio authorities and the production unit. The dispute went out for quite a long time, which adversely affected the filming schedule and stretched the filming dates.
However, after the disaccord came to rest, the crew completed shooting the remaining sequences in the same set that was built earlier. And later took it down! Some other important sequences were filmed in Phoenixville, before the unit finally wrapped up the filming process for Split.
Here are some awesome places in the state of Pennsylvania such as, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Hershey Park, Fallingwater, Longwood Gardens, and Independence Hall that you definitely look into. If you decide to visit this place anytime soon.
