The American western drama film, Seraphim Falls, released in 2006 was the only feature directed by David Von Acken, who is renowned for producing mostly TV shows. But that did not stop him from presenting a gripping story in the film, which showcases the tumultuous times in America, post Civil War.
Seraphim Falls, was highly praised by audiences and critics upon its release! Although, commercially it did not perform well, and grossed just over $1 million in total box office collections! Nonetheless, the film was nominated for the Gotham Awards in 2007 and went on to win World Stunt Awards in 2008!

Plot Of Seraphim Falls | What’s It About
The film begins in late 19th century Nevada, where we are introduced to the central character of Gideon! Who is trying to keep himself safe from a rugged and mean bounty hunter, named Col. Carver! Soon after, Gideon gets alarmed after hearing a gunfire sound from a nearby place, and quickly prepares to escape.
Later in the film, one by one, all the accompanying bounty hunters traveling with Carver, eventually perish. Carver eventually catches up with Gideon and extracts him from his hideout. The Col then reminds Gideon of the perilous times just after the Civil War. When his wife and children living in Seraphim Falls, were burnt alive by the former confederate officer.
Finally the men clash with each other, Gideon gets an upper hand on Carver, but refuses to kill him with the knife thinking about own doings, and spares his life. But Carver again follows the trail of Gideon and the broken men are shown to brawl again.
But this time Carver understands that his wife and children were killed accidentally. Gideon came only to catch him! The final credits roll as the two men bury the past and walk off in different directions.

Where Was Seraphim Falls Filmed? Let’s Know This Western Drama Flick Closely!!
The previous experience of working as an executive producer and traveling to different locations with the production unit came into play, for director Acken. The perfect filming locations for Seraphim Falls, however, weren’t decided in a couple of days. The production unit along with director Acken spent over a month scouting for probable filming locations in Mexico, initially!
After brain wracking and examining different settings, the production unit finally decided to shoot in America. Although 3 different locations were selected. Majority of the filming took place in the state of New Mexico. While some other sequences were filmed in Arizona and Oregon.
The principal photography of the film, began in October 2005 and was completed by the first month of 2006! The production unit went for a two week break, to celebrate Christmas and New Year with their family and friends. Oregon | USA
The first location that the production reached was the state of Oregon. The production camp was set on the banks of River McKenzie that flows towards the Willamette Valley in the west.
The opening scene of the film which depicted Gideon’s hideout was filmed on dry land near the river. Some outdoor shots of McKenzie river were also taken. The production crew then traveled to the regions near the Koosah Falls and Sahalie Falls, to shoot the waterfall scene where Gideon is shown to ambush Carver, in the film.
New Mexico | USA
The filming crew then moved to the state of New Mexico, where a major part of the movie was filmed. Exterior shots of the rugged Organ Mountain range were filmed. Located in the southern part of New Mexico this particular location proved to be challenging for the filming crew to operate in. However they managed to complete the long hauled filming at this place, which depicted most of the trail scenes in the film, before moving on to the next location.
Few other important sequences were filmed in Bramlett and Lordsburg in New Mexico. And then the crew moved to the city of Santa Fe, to shoot the interior and as well outdoor scenes. The historic surroundings of the city with broken streets and Pueblo style homes added to the overall setting and feel of this western film! Arizona | USA
Later the production unit moved to the state of Arizona, to film the final sequence of the film. Major ending scenes were filmed in Willcox and Pirtleville in Arizona. Couple of exterior shot of the Chiricahua National Monument were captured, as well.
