The basic premise centers around the character of Bob Munro (played by Robin Williams) taking his wife and kids to the beautiful Colorado mountains in his special truck.

Now, even though RV did not go on to become a huge commercial success, after collecting just over $70 million, against the production of $50 million. Where Was RV Filmed? Let’s Know This Comedy Flick Closely!

Barry Sonnenfeld can easily be considered as the undisputed “King of Comedy”. After witnessing blockbuster comedy films like The Addams Family, Big and Men In Black it’s pretty hard to keep Barry out of the list of the most successful and influential directors of Hollywood. So, with that being said, the fans had high expectations from RV after Barry was announced to join the project as a director.

Thus, to keep up with the same expectations, or better yet, to exceed them, Barry began scouting for the perfect filming locations across different places in America, initially. However, the other members of the unit later convinced the director to instead shoot the entire film in Canada, to keep the filming budget low.

Soon, the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta were finalized as the perfect sites for capturing the breathtaking outdoor sequences of this adventure movie. The principal photography began on the 24th of May 2005 and was completed in less than two months. So let’s dive right in and explore where was RV filmed and find out more about the specific shooting locations in Canada.

Apart from the opening scene, which was filmed in California, the majority of the sequences were captured in British Columbia, Canada. A medium-sized house located on the outskirts of Vancouver was used to portray the family home of Munro. The establishing scene where we see the lead actor coming home to his kids and wife was filmed here. The crew arranged filming permissions from the owners of the property and captured interior as well as exterior shots over a period of one week.

The production members then moved to the city of Chilliwack and filmed the sequences of the awesome road trip. A special van was used to film the scene in which one of the kids is shown driving the family car of Munro’s. Other pivotal sequences in British Columbia, featured the breathtaking shots of Mt. Seymour Provincial Park.

Alberta | Canada

The other half of the movie, depicting the campsite in Colorado, was actually filmed in the province of Alberta. The Kananaskis Country situated on the foothills of the Canadian Rockies was used to capture the final destination of the trip. The filming crew later traveled near the Milk River and constructed a make-believe campsite on the banks. Filming went on for three and a half weeks in the same location, after which the crew took some exterior shots in Lethbridge and then returned to Vancouver. The remaining interior sequences were filmed inside a renowned studio located near the downtown area of Vancouver. After wrapping up the entire filming process, the crew began working on the promotion of the RV.
