Where Was Rabbit Hole Filmed? Let’s Know This Action Thriller Series Closely!

The making of Rabbit Hole was announced last year. But before making this astounding series, the makers were hugely inspired by political dramas like Three Days of the Condor, Marathon Man, and The Manchurian Candidate. Thus, they hoped to create a rousing show with a similar narrative.

The story of Rabbit Hole is set in and around different locations in America. However, the shooting was done elsewhere. During the initial stages of production, John and Ficarra scouted through a number of locations in California and the state of Georgia.

The production budget was adequate enough to sustain filming in these American locations, but the directors weren’t completely convinced by the backdrop. So instead of scouting other potential filming locations in America, John and Ficarra decided to film the entire show in Canada.

A special team was then sent to the province of Ontario to search for ideal shooting spots. After several weeks the team came up with a number of locations in and around the city of Hamilton and Toronto, which matched the description briefed by the makers.

The principal photography of Rabbit Hole began in the third week of May last year and continued till the second week of September. The production members were able to complete the shooting within the estimated timeline without delaying the original shooting schedule.

The majority of the logistics were transported to the specific shooting spots in advance. Plus, as the filming crew was shooting the outdoor sequences during the summer, the bad weather didn’t get in the way of filming.

The show’s opening sequence, where we see the character of John Weir inside his office in America, was filmed in Canada. The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of a commercial building in downtown Toronto.

The interior sequence where John gets arrested by the police was also filmed inside the same property. Additional lighting equipment had to be installed in certain areas of the building. But other than that, no other major changes were made.

Other important scenes depicting the house of John’s deceased friend Edward Homm were filmed inside a small house located on the outskirts of Toronto. The scene where the authorities find the dead body of Homm after breaking into his house was filmed inside the same property.

The production members used a well-equipped studio in Hamilton to film the remaining scenes. The interior sequences depicting John’s time in the penitentiary were actually filmed on one of the sound stages in the same studio.

The shooting of Rabbit Hole concluded by the second week of September 2022.
