People who visit the island mostly stay near the beaches or explore the pubs and restaurants that serve delicious and authentic Greek food. 

However, many tourists specifically visit Skiathos island because movies like Mamma Mia were shot there. And not only this particular movie but other films like 1980’s Summer Lovers were also filmed here. Skiathos as an exotic island came to attention after the shooting of Mamma Mia when Hollywood set its eyes on it and made it famous.

A few of the significant scenes, where Sophie leaves after her wedding or the scene where Sophie along with her possible fathers jump from a high cliff were filmed in Skopelos, which in the movie was called Kalokairi. Damouchari, Pelion Region

Damouchari was the main location where the entire cast and crew of the film Mamma Mia stayed during the filming session. Most of the footage that was captured in this location was later amalgamated with images shot on Skiathos and Skopelos. 

Damouchari is situated near the eastern coast of the country. From places like Volos or Athens, it only takes about 30 minutes to reach there. Some of the scenes that we watch at the beginning of the movie were filmed here. Scenes like when Julie Waters and Christine Baranski reach the island for the first time and are greeted by Meryl Streep were shot here. A number of scenes where we get to see a beach are filmed at the Blue Beach in Damouchari.
