Where Was Beef Filmed? Let’s Know This Comedy Drama Series Closely!

Even though the story of Beef is about two Asian individuals going berserk at each other, the filming of this series didn’t take place in Asia. The story of Beef is set in California, and the makers of this show decided also to film the entire series in the same state.

So, after selecting the cast members and adjusting the script, Sung Jin and his team started looking for ideal filming locations in and around the state of California. As the director wanted to showcase the growing Asian-American community, he thought of shooting the majority of the sequences in L.A.

Subsequently, the production members started looking for suitable filming locations according to the description given by Sung Jin. After a couple of days, the filming crew was able to locate a number of potential shooting locations in Los Angeles.

But, they couldn’t commence shooting, as they were having a hard time acquiring filming permission for those locations. So, the production members had to scout other sites in Los Angeles which were available for filming.

Sung Jin visited the locations in person this time around and made sure everything was perfect. He then asked the filming crew to commence shooting.

The principal photography of Beef began in the last week of January last year and continued till the month of May. The filming schedule of this show eventually got delayed, mainly due to the mismanagement of the production members, who weren’t able to arrange the logistics in time.

Other than that, there were no other issues that kept the crew from filming. Special cameras and cars were brought in, to film the car chase and road rash sequences.

So, without stalling any longer, let’s discuss where was Beef filmed in-depth.

Los Angeles | California

The opening sequence of the show, where we see the character of Amy Lau, inside a luxurious home, was actually filmed in L.A.

The production members arranged a big-sized house, located in one of the poshest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The interior sequences depicting Amy and her husband’s swanky home were filmed inside the same property.

The production members only had to install a couple of focus lights and microphones, but other than that, no major changes were made. The overall decor of the house was kept the same, to give it a more minimalistic look.

The sequences depicting Danny’s home, however, were captured around a starkly different area In Los Angeles. The production members traveled to the outskirts of Los Angeles and arranged a small-sized home. The sequences of Danny’s studio apartment were then filmed inside the same house.

In order to capture the sequences of the car crash, the production members had to arrange special vehicles which were equipped with extra safety features. Special cameras were then mounted on the same vehicles, to capture the shot of the impact from different angles.

Additional sequences of the show were filmed near Venice Beach and the downtown area of Los Angeles. Then the production members wrapped the entire shooting process, by the first week of May 2022.
